Story:

He hates love, she loves it. He loves her, but she is not sure if she feels the same. That is Kandha Kottai in a nutshell. Nagulan plays a boy who absolutely detests the very thought of a young boy and girl falling in love and getting married. His dislike stems from the fact that his parents were one such couple long ago. But their married life was not as rosy as their love story. Their constant quarrels lead their son to believe that love can only be wrong. With nothing but opposition for romance, his only mission seems to be to terminate all love stories that he is aware of. That is where Poorna enters. If Nagulan’s character is from the South Pole, Poorna’s ought to be from the North. Their thinking is diametrically opposite and Poorna believes in supporting every love story that she is aware of. Expectedly, both of them do not have a love story of their own. While Nagulan is at his regular job of mangling up another love story, a very drastic turn of events changes his outlook towards love. He starts believing that love can be pure and true after all. It is not long before he develops a soft corner for the girl who made him feel good about love, which happens to be Poorna. But Poorna, the constant advocate for love, is not quite sure about her feelings towards him. Why? That is where a third

person comes into the picture. Though he exits soon after, it is his character that is responsible for all the subsequent events in a very ironical manner. What happens to Nagulan’s love and how the events affect their life is what Kandha Kottai is all about.

Story:

Filmmaker Selvah’s remake of Naan Avan Illai proved to be a black horse at box office and after now he’s proving of his adeptness again with its sequel. Nearly couple of years, The Master of Deception is back in business with his tritely conniving styles. Jeevan plays the same role of a conman transfixing the filthy rich girls (Lakshmi Rai, Hema Malini, Swetha Menon and Rakshana), whose dreams are barely about money, diamonds and an obedient servant-like-husbands.

Although, the entire film has the hackneyed narration of Jeeva repeating the same fraudulent acts again and again, Selvah makes sure that audiences don’t feel bored about it. Much similar to the prequel, we’ve Jeevan reasserting– Naan Avanillai (I am not that person) and naturally, it adds to the interesting quotients in this film.

Sangeetha gears on for an exceptional role sans glamour while rest of the actresses seem to have crossed their limits of glam-quotients. Especially Hema Malini turns to be topped on these charts as she does nothing other than skin shows. On the pars, Rakshana and Swetha Menon strive to get their skins exposed to extreme…. But it’s really puzzling on who’s actually designing costumes for Lakshmi Rai.

Technically, the film hasn’t got anything special to mention about. It looks like music director Imman had just scored the music without any interests. Or maybe, Selvah requested him not to strain too much for best tunes.

Though Jeevan’s scheming acts are quite enjoyable, they lack logicalities. The best part to be appreciated is Selvah’s sleek screenplay and his ability to present an entertaining film with a short duration of just 105mins.

Finally, if you’ve planned to watch this Naan Avanillai-2, just go ahead, sit back and relax. But please drop your reasoning factors aside and don’t question certain illogical attributes prevalent in the screenplay.
